Mt. Annapurna Range

Thorung La 5416m.

Annapurna Range

In this classic trek, you get the feeling of having travelled to an earlier time. Beginning at low elevation and climbing up to the Thorong La Pass at 5,416 metres, you walk past rice fields, quaint villages and arid stretches. The peaks of the Annapurna range loom around you. You walk through Kali Gandaki, the deepest gorge in the world, and see the mighty Dhaulagiri (8,172m), the world's 7th highest peak, Annapurna I (8071m) with its sub-peaks above 7000m, and many other peaks. Annapurna provides more variety of treks and expeditions to its visitors than any other region all the year round, with superb displays of nature. Because of this, most of the trekking routes are always full of visitors and attracting more and more each year. This region also provides adventure to people of all ages.

Pokhara being the gateway to most of the treks in this region, Pokhara itself provides immense pleasure with its natural beauty. The most visited part of Pokhara is Phewa Lake and boating on this lake is a lifetime goal for many. The reflected image of the most beautiful peak Macchapucchure (also known as 'The Fishtail Peak') on the clear water of Phewa Lake is a breathtaking view to see. Pokhara valley holds six other popular lakes besides Phewa Lake (4.43 sq.kms.). These are Begnas lake (2.5 sq.kms.), Rupa Lake (1.4 sq.kms.), Maidi Lake (0.41 sq.kms.), Khaste Lake (0.21 sq.kms.), Gunde Lake (0.05 sq.kms.) and Dipang Lake (0.026 sq.kms.). It also provides opportunities to cave dwellers with ten different mysterious caves such as Mahendra Cave, Bat Cave and Gupteshor Mahadev Cave. This valley is also famous for extreme sport seekers with the opportunity of ultralite flights over the Annapurna region, paragliding, boating, rafting on the Seti river, fast zip-wires etc. Staying a couple of days in Pokhara will be a great relaxation after a tiring trek or expedition.
