Trekking from Jumla to Rara Lake in the mid western region of Nepal is known as Rara Lake trekking in Nepal. Trekking in Rara Lake provides excellent exploration opportunities to Napal's finest Rara National park and famous Rara Lake situated at an altitude of 2,990 meter. Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu (1350m.) and transfer to hotel

Namaste! And welcome to Kathmandu, the colourful capital of Nepal where ornately carved balconies mingle with beautiful shrines and temples. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting on arrival at the exit gate of Kathmandu airport. Our staff will welcome you and pick you to your accommodated hotel. Please seek our company palmplate to find our staff at the main exit gate of the airport. Rest of the day you can relax at the hotel or short evening walk around local market on your own as per your wish.

Day 02 Rest and preparation day

A well deserved rest day at cosy of hotel after a long tiring flight. This day, one can move around nearby local market to purchase or hire trekking equipment that is necessary for the trekking like sleeping bags, walking sticks etc, exchange currency as requirement or simply walk around in the local market or Kathmandu Durbar squire nearby with small entrance fee as per your preference on your own. Evening at the hotel lobby there will be pre-trip briefing in which you will be introduced with your trekking guide and explained about your trip in short, instruction for safety etc.

Day 03 Fly to Nepalgunj (150m.)

On this day, you’ll take an hour scenic flight to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu. Located on Banke region in far western Nepal, Nepalgunj is popular transportation and industrial hub. Today you’ll have enough time to explore this multi-ethnic city of Nepal. You’ll get a close insight into the unique culture and lifestyle of Terai people which is quite different than people living in the capital city. You can visit Grasscutters’ Lane or indulge yourself in the street food.

Day 04 Fly to Jumla(2514m.)

On this day, after having breakfast, you’ll take a flight from Nepalgunj to Jumla. It is short 20 minutes flight and you’ll reach Jumla at an elevation of 2,540 meters. Today you’ll feel the drastic change in the landscape as you’ll fly from the plain land of Terai to the hilly landscape of Jumla. Jumla is one of the remote and less developed Karnali regions of Nepal. It is the main headquarters of Jumla districts. You’ll spend a whole day exploring this undiscovered place for the acclimatization purpose.

Day 05 Trek to Chauriya Chaur (3055 m)

On this day, we officially start Rara Lake Trek. After having breakfast we’ll start our trek from Jumla to Chauriya Chaur (3,055 meters). Today is our first day of the trek so we need to slowly ascend and drink plenty of water. On the way to Chauriya Chaur, we’ll pass Khalanga Bazaar, a small marketplace. After passing through several small villages and temple you’ll reach Chauriya Chaur where we overnight.

Day 06 Trek to to Chalachaur (2980 m)

On this day, we’ll follow the western trails and make a slowly ascend through beautiful rhododendron, birch, and pine forests to the place called Jaljala Pass (3,585 meters). Jaljala Pass offers a stupendous view of Kanjiroba Himal. We’ll cross this pass and continue our trek through a pristine trail. After a couple of hours, we’ll reach a summer grazing pastures called as Jaljala Chaur. Further walking, we’ll enter into the main Rara CIrcuit trail and reach Chala Chaur (2,980 meters) where we stay overnight.

Day 07 Trek to to Sinja(2405 m)

Today, we'll head towards Sinja, a remote village situated at the bank of Hima River. The trail passes through several small settlements. Enroute, we’ll be well accompanied by Jaljala River. Finally, after 4-5 hours of walk, you’ll reach Sinja Valley (2,405 meters) for an overnight stay. This beautiful valley is the capital of the Malla Dynasty from the 12th – 14th century. Thus, this Sinja Valley offers numerous ancient temples and places to explore to the trekkers.

Day 08 Trek to Ghorosingha (3050 m)

On this day, we’ll have early morning breakfast and leave for Ghorosingha. Following the upstream trail, we’ll head east and reach Laha. From Laha the trek continues to the small settlement of Gani. Further, following the steep trail, we’ll reach Ghorosingha (3,050 meters) for an overnight stay.

Day 09 Trek to Rara Lake (3010 m)

Today, after having breakfast we’ll head towards Rara Lake (3,010 meters) with a steep climb along the side of Chuchamare Danda. At top of the hill, we’ll get fabulous Himalayan views with magnificent deep blue serene Rara Lake surrounded by green hills. Enjoying the natural scenery, now we’ll enter into a forested trail and continue our trek until we reach Majhghat. After crossing Majhghat, we’ll follow the Khatyar river and reach Chhapri village which is also a headquarter of the Rara National Park. Walking further, finally, we’ll reach our dream destination the Rara Lake. Upon our arrival, we can admire the close-up view of a tranquil lake and lush vegetation of Rara National Park.

Day 10 Exploration day to Rara Lake and Valley

On this day, we’ll spend your whole day exploring the Rara Lake and the surroundings. After having breakfast, we’ll head towards to explore one of the biggest lakes in Nepal. It is surrounded by dense green forests which is home to diverse flora and fauna including some indigenous species of birds, fish, and animals. If we want to go for the long day trip, then Murma Top offers a mesmerizing view of the lake from the above. It’ll take around 6-7 hours to go there and come back. Also, if we just want to stay on the bank of the lake we can also enjoy the spectacular view of the lake and the Himalayas. The changing light of the lake’s hues whose magical transformation will definitely offer us lifetime memorable experience. Besides all this, we can also experience short boating trips on a clear day, even thous swimming is not allowed to avoid polluting crystal clear water. After enjoying and capturing the marvelous views in your camera we’ll walk back to the lodge.

Day 11 Trek to to Pina (2440 m)

Leaving behind beautiful pristine Rara Lake we’ll trek towards Pina. It is around 4-5 hours walking in quite pleasant path until we reach Gamgadhi, a headquarter of the Mugu District. Further, we’ll follow the beautiful forest trail to Jhyari Khola. And after short uphill walks take us through the pine forest to Pina (2,440 meters).

Day 12 Trek to to Bumra (2850 m)

After having breakfast we'll leave Pina. The trail is uphill and leads through Ghurchi Langna Pass(3445m.). We can see colorful prayer flags and from the top of the pass and further we can see the beautiful Karnali river. After enjoying the view, we’ll continue your trek down to Bulbule. From Bulbule, we’ll move towards the south and continue through the small settlement around Chautha. After 5-6 hours of walk, we’ll reach a beautiful village in Burma (2,850 meters) for an overnight stay. This village is also called as Nauri Ghat.

Day 13 Trek to to Jumla (2540 m)

Today, we’ll start our trek early in the morning from Bumra village. Enjoying the final day of your Rara Lake Trek, we’ll cross two suspension bridges over Hima River. After a few hours of downhill walk, we’ll reach a hot spring. Here we can take a bath and relax our body. After spending some time in hot spring, we’ll cross Danphe Lagna Pass(3,685m). We’ll continue our trek and reach Chauriya Chaur. From this village we’ll walk on the same trail back which we took in earlier days. Finally, after 5-6 hours of walk, we’ll reach Jumla (2,540 meters) for an overnight stay.

Day 14 Fly to Nepalgunj(150m.) and to Kathmandu(1350m.)

Early in the morning, we’ll fly back to Nepalgunj. After reaching Nepalgunj, we’ll again catch a flight back to Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Upon your arrival at Kathmandu Airport, we’ll get transfer to the respective hotel. In the evening, we can stroll around the nearby famous tourist hub, Thamel. Here we can celebrate the successful completion of the Rara Lake Trek. We can also do last-minute shopping. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 15 Rest and final shopping day

This is the final day in Nepal. A chance to do some shopping, explore at leisure or merely relax by the hotel. We enjoy a final night together, reliving the trek and our extraordinary achievements.

Day 16 Final departure

We say Namaste; for memories that will last a lifetime. There are no activities planned for today and you are able to depart the hotel at any time. Check out time from the hotel is at 12 noon. If you are departing later, you can arrange luggage storage at the hotel. For your final departure, our staff will pick you up from the hotel and transfer to Kathmandu airport approximately 3 hours prior to your international flight time.

Clothing and Equipments List
» Pack to pack out - bring enough waterproof bags to carry all non-biodegradable rubbish back down the mountain.
» Remove all unnecessary packaging before leaving home.
» Bring enough warm dry clothes so that you can wrap up rather than burn firewood in the evenings.
» If you are going to trek higher than 5000m or you know it will be cold, buy an aluminum water bottle which can also be used as a hot water bottle at night.
» The easiest way to keep hydrated while trekking is to buy a 1 x liter platypus-drinking bladder to carry in your day pack.
» Make sure to buy proper trekking socks. Don’t buy synthetic socks as these promote sweating and can give you blisters. Always carry a few blister pads in your first aid kit and keep them handy in your day pack.
» Walking poles are very useful while trekking and helpful when descending.
» Please remember that waste disposal and recycling facilitates are limited in Nepal. When buying batteries make sure they are rechargeable and/or high quality so they last longer, and take them home to recycle.
